Empty Space

About Project

96 seconds. A musical short film where the song isn't accompanying the story—the story is interpreting the song.

A woman enters an abandoned railway station transformed into a nightclub. A man arrives. They reconnect. She ends alone.

But underneath: absence occupying a place as strongly as presence.

The station once sent people away. Now it gathers them. Yet even after it has been transformed into something beautiful, it still carries echoes of everyone who came before.

Ghosts of ticket holders still knockin' on the doors.

Club Rails

An intimate nightclub inside a restored railroad roundhouse. Architecture isn't scenery. Architecture is memory. The roundhouse isn't simply an adaptive reuse project. It has a previous life. The radial turntable once organized departures. Now it organizes intimacy.

The same geometry that once separated people across railway lines now gathers them around a single microphone.

The Characters

ROXI. She never feels like she's performing. She feels like she's listening. Listening to the room. Listening to memory. Listening to herself.

DARRION. He knocks. That tiny action changes everything. He asks permission. It immediately tells us who he is: warm, patient, present.

The Framework

0
Knocks

Structure. ClubRails. A restored railroad roundhouse. Radial symmetry. Warm amber light. A vintage gold microphone on a preserved turntable where locomotives once pivoted to begin their journeys. The space holds memory.

Intrusion. Roxi enters. The corridor. Her back bare, her full length visible. She's seeing herself. She turns to face the camera, engaging us in her power. The empty venue behind her.

Integration. She walks to the microphone. She grabs it. Her hand on the stand. The camera orbits, showing us more of the space. She is becoming one with the room. Her dress changes—a subtle shift. The building is changing her.

Intimacy. Darrion knocks. He enters. He smiles warmly. He grabs her gently. They are electric. She places her hands on his cheeks. Every time he walks around her, they're in a different place in the club. He changes the world by moving around her.

Release. A darker view. Close-up of Roxi. Front view. Alone at the microphone. Eyes closed. Then a slow open. We hold. Fade to black.

The Critique

"I think Empty Space is the first project you've described that I would call a musical short film rather than an AI film. The song isn't accompanying the story. The story is interpreting the song. That's a very different creative relationship."

"Every time he walks around her, they're somewhere else. That is brilliant. Because movement isn't just blocking anymore. Movement edits space. He literally changes the world by moving around her. That is cinematic language."

"The building used to send people away. Now it invites them to stay."
